With their new high-profile real estate, STAR needed a way to integrate a dynamic branch experience for their members, a flexible work environment for their transient professionals, and a venue for hosting member or community events. Our team studied their programmatic needs alongside the existing constraints of the historical landmark to design a modern environment to propel them forward in their vision.
OVERVIEW
After more than three decades in business, STAR Financial Bank wanted to double down on their commitment to Indiana, so they planted their flag on the capital’s iconic Monument Circle and commissioned our team to transform their new space within the historic Emmis Communications building.

Level 1: The Branch
On the first level is a retail bank branch where environmental branding and security were prime design drivers. STAR’s overall brand palette contains a very bold orange and a rich teal; however, a more calming and complementary palette is utilized within their physical space alongside an array of textures. Balancing external brand visibility while respecting the historic nature of the façade, the design uses small but intentionally placed doses of STAR’s signature orange to capture the attention of passersby.

Level 2: Agile Workspaces
Above the retail branch floors is a bright and fresh workspace for STAR’s corporate team, which serves as an essential component to help attract and retain top talent. An agile mix of work environments give their team members choice of how to best accomplish their day’s tasks; a two-story work cafe for pop-in work, lunch breaks, and larger client entertaining; fully-glazed offices for an added level of privacy with an adjacent breakout nook for impromptu meetings or conversations; and a lofted lounge dubbed the ‘Bird’s Nest’ for a quieter focus spot with dynamic views.

Level 3: The Board Room
On the uppermost level is a high-tech boardroom with rich woods and existing exposed brick walls, boasting dynamic views to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Adjacent to the boardroom is their fireside room, where STAR members and their guests can gather or socialize before and after important meetings. Workspaces populate the rest of the floor providing plenty of space for future growth.
