Resultant – Monument Circle
The Story

Having reached capacity in their existing space, Resultant (formerly KSMC) began to grow momentum around the vision of  their next office as a destination to bring their clients into the creative process and a vanguard of evolving  work environments. In an expanding landscape of coffee shops, highly connected home offices, collaborative  incubators, and membership based drop-in work environmentswhere does that leave the office as we  know it?

To answer these questions and forge an informed path ahead, Resultant engaged DELV and DORIS Research, a like-minded, human-centered workplace research firm.

An Empathic Approach to Design
Process

An Empathic Approach to Design

By seeking first to understand (before any sketch is created or assumptions of needs are made): how do we work now, how could we work, and finally, how should we work, this effort, which included on-site observations, interviews, data gathering, and a test-feedback loop, fostered a highly empathic understanding of the current state. Insights were gathered and pulled through the entirety of the design process through to completion.

Due North

Due North

Originally programmed as the ‘ideation and solutioning’ room, DELV created a flexible workshop space (able to be enclosed by large sliding glass doors) to be the dominant element of the space and positioned toward ‘Due North.’ Its juxtaposition with the curvilinear building not only helps orient, but is symbolic of Resultant’s work: taking clients from complex, hazy problems toward finding their own “true  north.” Due North was designed to be the ultimate blank page: a glowing white box with embedded tech and a ceiling that resembles crumpled paper, it’s the destination clients will remember where they became a part of the action, not just a recipient of a deliverable.  Its prominence in the space is a visible reminder of the true value they give clients.

The Lookout

The Lookout

Adjacent to the Due North workshop space, this spot with writable walls, tech dock in, and a prime view of the iconic Monument Circle gives team members an impromptu meet up space. During large events and gatherings, it’s perfect for social hours or breakout conference space.

Project-based Rooms

Project-based Rooms

Perhaps both the most unique and crucial innovation reflects an oft-ignored reality of many workplacesResultant’s employees are largely project-based. The design is flanked with adaptable and quickly subdividable project rooms equipped with writable walls, mobile furniture and technology, and full-height glazing for maximum daylight penetration. Whether a team of four needs to camp out in a project room for two months, or a team of 12 needs to reconfigure walls and desks for a six month-long project, these rooms give agency back to the employees to nuance their space in order to do their best work.

The Loft

The Loft

The loft gives Resultant’s nomadic workers a place to perch when they pop-in, whether for a few days or an hour in-between their client site visits. In step with the democratic design approach, the loft was centrally located and elevated so that the dynamic views and daylight would be accessible to all employees.

The Library

The Library

The tucked-away Library offers a needed retreat. A wall of shelves, filled with books and games galore, features a library ladder along with textures and furnishings that offer the warmth and and comforts associated with home. There’s even a secret door hidden in a paneled wall leading to a cozy, private nook perfect for phone calls or heads-down tasks. After work hours, cued by a playful neon sign, the Library transitions to a social space where the team can gather and have a few drinks over board games.

DELV helped us infuse our culture and work into KSMC111, designing for both functionality and creativity.
