Top-ranking Decatur County Memorial Hospital had been tenacious in ensuring high-quality inpatient care for over a century. However, they recognized the experience of their ‘out’ patients were not measuring up to their standard of excellence, so they engaged DELV to help reimagine.

DCMH Rehabilitation Center
The Story

Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) is a critical access hospital and the only inpatient healthcare provider in Greensburg, Indiana. While this allows the hospital to serve a large portion of their rural community, their 25+ year-old, basement outpatient spaces were anything but ideal. The hospital leadership desired to create experiences that were more accessible to the public, more adaptive to current and future treatment methodologies, and generally more welcoming.

Our team designed a new, modernized 26,000 square-foot medical office building that will centralize their growing rehabilitation program for adults and pediatrics. The design also enables an expansion of their physician practices which will reside on the building’s second floor and offers a brand-new outward ‘face’ along one of the city’s main thoroughfares.

Surrounded in Daylight

The new, 3-level building offers an abundance of daylight, something the previous spaces lacked. Window placement was maximized in more public areas, and thoughtfully placed in the spaces that required more privacy for patients.

Mindful Materiality

The design, while new and modern, sought to embrace the existing context of the century-old campus aesthetic and create a fresh, but integrated palette of materials that was both inviting and timeless.
