DELV was brought in to work alongside landscape architects envisioning how to transform the once family farmland into a rural park for residents to gather, play, and find respite in nature. Tasked with designing durable, functional spaces that would support and complement the existing historic schoolhouse located on the site, our team of designers gently crafted structures in the landscape that aligned with the natural undulations in plan and landform. These spaces include a central restroom pavilion that also serves as park storage, a large gathering pavilion that can flex to hold events for up to 100 people or be home to a temporary performance stage, and five shelters dispersed around the grassy area for smaller groups to find shade or have a picnic. The park will also have trails, nature play elements, a water feature, and an activity lawn for individuals and families to enjoy.
OVERVIEW
The City of West Lafayette was gifted a unique piece of land—one that housed a historic public schoolhouse—and they were committed to creating a destination for the entire community to enjoy for decades to come.
