Marisa Gegg Wins Design Competition

Flexing across design discipline lines

We’ve always known Marisa was a gifted designer, so when she was inspired to flex her design muscles in a new medium, textiles, we were eager to see what she’d come up with. And when learning that she was awarded 1st place in The Dreamweaver Textile Design Competition, we were thrilled for her; extremely proud, but not surprised a bit.

The competition invited designers to imagine their own unique upholstered textile design and would select the winner based on product application, ease of production, and aesthetics. When asked what drove the inspiration behind her abstract, geometric pattern Marisa said, “I wanted to create a simple expression of my day-to-day life–where I live, work, eat, sleep, and play. Using cues from my 317 area code, I began by mapping out and manipulating street lines. I experimented with color blocking techniquesplotting out key locales until landing on a fun and intriguing pattern.”

Hosted by Haworth, Mayer Fabrics, and Commercial Office Environments, the competition presented Marisa with a unique “trophy”; her own Harbor Work Lounge chair and Ottoman upholstered with the fabric.
